Physiotherapy Care

A Physiotherapist is a primary health care practitioner who utilizes extensive knowledge in areas of orthopaedics, neurology, cardiorespiratory, geriatrics, seniors' health, post-surgical procedures and sports injuries.

A physiotherapist will complete an extensive assessment that may include your health history, evaluation of pain and movement patterns, strength, joint range of motion, reflexes, sensation and cardiorespiratory status. In addition, the physiotherapist examines relevant x-rays, laboratory tests, medical records and surgical notes. Based on this assessment the physiotherapist establishes a diagnosis and works in partnership with you to develop individualized goals and treatment programs.

Physiotherapy treatment can include manual therapy, therapeutic devices, active exercises program and  review of custom home exercise program. A physiotherapist promotes independence. Emphasis is placed on what you can do for yourself and on education to prevent future injuries or disability.

In-Home Physiotherapy

A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position.

They look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance.  Global Health Physiotherapy utilizes Gait Scan technolgy to create the most accurate and best fit orthotic.

Custom orthotics work on your feet much like glasses work on your eyes - they reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. The plastic body of the custom orthotic helps to re-align the foot by redirecting and reducing certain motion that takes place during the gait cycle.

Custom orthotics fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole - and they have the advantage of having been made from precise imprints of your feet.

Work-related injuries and conditions are commonly treated by physiotherapists. Work-related injuries can range from repetitive sprain syndromes, back injuries due to lifting and carrying, falls and more serious injuries.

The WSIB (Workplace Safety & Insurance Board) is a government agency that provides no-fault compensation for Ontario workplaces covered under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997.

For approved WSIB claims, we submit the appropriate Program of Care forms and treat patients within the guideline. The fees associated with these services are directly billed to WSIB.

BRACES & SPLINTS

There are various support splints and braces that can be beneficial in helping with injury recovery for the purposes of joint stabilization, reducing swelling and inflammation, or promoting muscle/tendon flexibility.

Casts and splints are orthopaedic devices that are used to protect and support fractured or injured bones and joints. They help to immobilize the injured limb to keep the bone in place until it fully heals.

Casts differ from splints because they provide more support and protection for a limb that is injured or broken. They are made from materials like plaster or fibreglass that can be easily moulded to the shape of the injured arm or leg.

Splints, also known as half-casts, provide less support than casts, but are faster and easier to use. They also can be tightened or loosened easily if the swelling in the arm or leg increases or decreases.
